Introduction to Zhongke Botanical Garden
Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of China Academy of Sciences (referred to as "Banna Botanical Garden") is located in Huludao, Menglun Town, Mengla County, Yunnan Province. It is a national ** tourist attraction. The park was founded by botanist Cai Xitao in 1958 and moved to Huludao in 1959. It is now affiliated to the China Academy of Sciences. It covers an area of about 1125 hectares, retains more than 14,000 living plants, and preserves 250 hectares of original tropical rainforest. The park is surrounded by the Luosuo River and has 39 special plant areas, including tropical rainforests, aquatic plant areas, palm forests and other ecological landscapes, and has special plants such as Wang Lian, dancing grass, and mysterious fruit. The park integrates scientific research, species conservation, and popular science education. It has published a total of 2910 SCI papers and 53 authorized patents. It has published research results in journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell. In 2016, it won China **"Fenghuai Award", entered the candidate list of National Botanical Garden System in 2023, and passed the conformity identification assessment in 2024. Carry out ex-situ protection of ** plants, break through the seed germination technology of more than 30 endangered orchid species, provide free seedlings to surrounding people, and build a DNA database of wood tree species. In September 2025, we will carry out joint cooperation with Edinburgh ** Botanical Garden on plant diversity research and horticultural talent training.
